Family Issues That Impact the Work Environment

Destructive misuse of alcohol, drugs, nicotine and food can have a tremendous negative impact on individuals, their families, friends, and the organizations where they work. When these issues are misunderstood or ignored, the destructive behavior may escalate. This program is designed for supervisors and managers who want to understand the sometimes fine dividing line between employee behaviors that should be referred to an Employee Assistance Program and behaviors that might be handled through workshops and counseling. We also cover the legal ramifications and requirements of referrals to EAPs and help managers deal with their needy employees in the most positive way.

At the end of this program, you will:

  • Deepen your understanding of habitual behaviors that can stem from substance abuse, including alcohol, drugs, nicotine, and food.
  • Learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of these destructive patterns.
  • Understand the impact of substance abuse on individuals, family, friends, and organizations.
  • Discover the resources available to support individuals in recognizing and recovering from their destructive behaviors.
  • Develop the communication skills to support dialog that can lead to positive change.
  • Learn detachment skills in order to more effectively address negative behaviors in the workplace.

Who Will Benefit

Individuals who supervise or manage two or more employees will benefit from being able to spot destructive habitual behaviors more quickly to lessen the negative impact on other employees and the organization.
